Criticism over Champions Trophy schedule

The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy schedule has been heavily criticised. The Indian team is scheduled to play matches only in Dubai, while the other teams have to travel between different venues in Pakistan. While some teams have benefited from the ICC's hybrid model , others are facing difficulties. It is yet to be clarified whether the schedule will change or not.

Cricketers are unhappy 

The 2025 Champions Trophy schedule is currently under intense debate. As per the schedule, India will play all its group matches in Dubai. The semi-final will also be held at the same venue. The other teams will have to travel to various venues in Pakistan. This has some cricketers expressing their dissatisfaction. Group B teams Australia and South Africa will travel to the UAE on Saturday, but one of them may have to return to Pakistan.

Pat Cummins comments

South African player Van der Dussen and former Australian captain Pat Cummins have expressed their displeasure. It is unfair for India to schedule all their matches at the same venue. They question whether India will benefit if other teams are tired of travelling.

Semifinal stage

The semi-final matches will be played on March 4 and 5. It is understood that the first semi-final will be held in Dubai and the second in Lahore. However, the teams that qualified for the semi-finals from Group B will have to travel due to the change of venue. According to the ICC, the teams that qualified for the semi-finals need to be scheduled so that they get enough rest. However, a situation where a team has to travel from Pakistan to the UAE and return the next day could become inconvenient, an official said.If India wins the semi-final,The final match will be held in Dubai. However, if India loses in the semi-final, the final will be held at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Mixed reaction to hybrid model

The ICC has introduced a hybrid model for tournaments from 2024-27. While this model will benefit some teams, others will face travel issues. In particular, it has become controversial that India will be freed from the hardships of travel and other teams will have to travel in Pakistan. The schedule of the 2025 Champions Trophy has become confusing. There have been criticisms that the schedule has been designed in favor of India and that other teams are tired of traveling. The ICC is yet to respond to these criticisms. However, will changes be made to the schedule before the tournament starts? Or will the matches continue as per the schedule that has been finalized?
