YCP Deserves Opposition Status – BJP Leader

Opposition status in Andhra Pradesh politics has become a subject of debate. BJP senior leader Subrahmanyam Swamy stated that, despite the YSR Congress Party (YSCP) having a relatively smaller number of MLAs in the assembly, it is only fair to treat them as the opposition when compared to the ruling party and other opposition parties. He emphasized that even if the opposition party doesn't have a large number of members, it should still be allowed to voice the people's concerns.

Regarding the deputy mayor by-election in Tirupati, Subrahmanyam Swamy condemned the attacks on public representatives by the ruling party. He called such incidents unfortunate in a democracy and urged political parties to uphold democratic values. He criticized the lack of platform for opposition parties and the violence against them, describing it as uncivilized behavior. He stressed that people should have the right to express their views through elections.

Subrahmanyam Swamy filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the High Court regarding the matter. He revealed that the case will be heard on March 12. He stated that depriving opposition parties of their rights is against democracy, and all political parties should have equal rights to contest elections. The BJP leader emphasized the need for the ruling party to respect democratic systems and provide appropriate space for opposition parties. For more updates on Andhra Pradesh, visit Vaartha.
